My Teaching Philosophy

I feel that anyone but especially teachers are important role models in all our lives but for children most of all.
Art education is a subject that is important for all, I also feel that I understand and can work with the different styles and techniques. The purpose of education is to build the skills needed to deal with everyday life but the problems and issues faced. Create a set of tools for handling these problems in different ways. The purpose of art education is to build ones creativity and use it to solve problems in ways not yet or already thought of.
Students learn best in an open and welcoming environment, where all thoughts and feelings are heard and reflected on.
I feel that I was aware pretty early in my childhood because my mother would always give me positive comments on my drawings, sketches, and doodles. She would always say “That it was execent art!”. I was probably in middle school before I actually understood and could tell the difference between my doodles and drawings were.
Often I would doodle and sketch on all my homework and other school assignments but never thought much of it. At times I would get on a roll with drawing and really focus on a single piece or idea that was in my head but still I never thought of it truly art worthy. Although sometimes I would be very impressed with myself for the way I had captured something or the overall quality of the work.
All art to me was inspiring because the ideas are limitless and we have so many things at our disposal than we would have fifty years ago. It is no longer a skill that matters but rather the idea.
I used to see it how some people see it which is that art isn’t a real profession and that I was taking the lazy route in schooling. I have always been a fan of movies and films in general but it became that much more once I took a video production class. In the class we broke down how movies and films were made but also what to look for when viewing one. The whole thinking around the creation of a production was fascinating  to me because it would also make or break it for those watching.
I decided when I came to terms with my own art and felt comfort in my own self. I think I decided to be an art educator when I was looking into colleges and had just gotten done with my pottery 1 class. My teacher is what gave me such a realization of the true passion I had for art. My day to day interactions and experiences are what inspire me to be in the art state of mind.
